On the Road Again

That's right! Carl and I are up to our old tricks once again and are running away from home. As Tom Petty sings "I feel summer creepin' in and I'm tired of this town again..." we feel the warm breeze moving through town and must surrender to our need to wander.

This year instead of making a mad dash to the west coast, we've decided to take a leisurely drive through the Great South... Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, etc. We are already preparing ourselves for a heaping dose of country music, rhythm and blues, all things fried and barbecued, and, of course, southern charm. I might just even pack my cowboy boots!

We will be trying out a few new things this go around. First, a new camping setup... more pictures to come once we put on the finishing touches. Second... TRAVELING WITH A DOG.

Meet J.D. the newest member to our nomad camp. J.D. is a 3 year old German Shepherd-Chow Chow-Lab mix we adopted this past February.

Although he might look mean, trust me, his worst offense to date is eating a seat belt out of my Jeep. I think we might very well have found the sweetest, mildest, best tempered dog anyone could ask for.

We rescued J.D. from the Spotsylvania Animal Control Center/Shelter. His previous owner was forced to surrender him by the county. We're not sure what exactly happened to him in his past home, but the past is the past and he is nothing but a happy dog now.

If you are even possibly thinking of a new pet, I urge you to check your local shelters and rescue groups. We found Petfinder.com to be a great resource. Even if you want a purebred, there are groups that can help you find the breed you want. Rescuing an older animal may take some patience, but J.D. has proven to be worth every bit of effort we have put into him.

Ok, off the "save an animal" soap box... We're excited about the trip! We invite you to follow us via this blog as we try to find the best the South has to offer. Plenty of pictures and randomness is sure to follow!
